My brother's girlfriend has a great bumper sticker on the rear side window of her car. Since it's not on the bumper, it's more of an invitation to think about the message rather than accept it as truth. It goes something like this: "The less art a child gets, the more it shows". Children are artists by nature. If we deny our nature, our creative growth is stunted. Art, including music, encourages students to embrace all their senses and to incorporate their whole experience into some form of creative expression. If fostering independent thinking is the goal of modern education, then art needs to be at the center of everything we do as teachers.

I LOVE this Robert!! Hooray for your window on the what's important! We should start a thread on this somewhere over in the other area, and think about how arts education might nurture and develop the ability to embrace multiple perpectives!
